Dentures

Missing teeth can affect the way you eat, speak and even interact with others. At Newcastle Specialist Prosthodontics, we provide full and partial dentures that are carefully crafted to restore our patients’ smiles. With modern materials and a specialist approach, today’s dentures are typically more durable and natural-looking than dentures of the past.
What Are Full and Partial Dentures?
Full dentures replace an entire arch of missing teeth, either upper or lower (or both!), and rest securely on the gums.
Partial dentures are designed for patients who still have some of their natural teeth. They fill in the gaps and create a complete, functional smile.
How Dentures Stay In Place
Many dentures are retained using a natural suction or ‘vacuum’ effect that forms between the denture and the soft tissues of your mouth. When a denture is carefully designed to closely fit the shape of your gums and palate, a gentle seal is created. This seal, along with saliva, helps the denture stay securely in place during everyday activities like talking and eating.
The strength of this natural vacuum depends on factors such as your oral anatomy, saliva flow and how precisely the denture is made. This is why accurate impressions, careful design and regular maintenance are so important. In some cases, where natural suction is limited, implant-supported dentures may be recommended to provide extra stability and confidence.
Creating your denture is a carefully planned, step-by-step process designed to ensure the best possible fit, comfort and appearance. It begins with a thorough consultation and examination, where we assess your oral health, discuss your goals and determine the most suitable type of denture for your needs.
